    "Energize Your Studio with New Solo and Duet Repertoire"

    The annual New Music Review presentation is a lively,
    fast-paced, informative, and practical session that is a
    regular feature each year at the Music Teachers
    Association of California State Convention. In this
    overview of new piano music, Gail Lew will focus on
    technical and pedagogical aspects of the repertoire along
    with ideas to promote artistic performance by students.
    Diane Hidy will demonstrate artistic performances of these
    new contemporary works at the piano. Teachers will
    receive a free packet of new piano publications with sheet
    music, promotional materials from major publishers, and a
    comprehensive handout containing pedagogical features
    in the music and leveling guidelines. guidelines based on
    the Certificate of Merit™ piano syllabus.

    THE HISTORY OF THE PIANO DUET

    Gail will trace the historical development of the
    piano duet from the Renaissance period through the end
    of the Classical period in this illustrative piano
    lecture-recital featuring performances on virginal,
    harpsichord, and piano. Included on the program is one
    of the earliest examples of music written for two
    people at one keyboard dating from the early
    seventeenth century belonging to the tradition of the
    Elizabethan virginalist school. The earliest
    selections on the program will be performed on
    Elizabethan virginal and Baroque harpsichord with duet
    partner Dylan Snodgrass. Pedagogical works from the
    period will be performed by students of Gail Lew Piano
    Studio.

    The program features compositions by J.C. Bach,
    Tompkins, Turk, Diabelli, Mozart, Beethoven, and
    Schubert. Admission is free.

    In this overview of new piano music, Gail will focus on teaching ideas and technical aspects of elementary through early advanced level repertoire. Teachers will receive a FREE packet of new piano publications from major publishers and a comprehensive handout containing information on the pedagogical features, technical aspects of the music, and leveling guidelines. Gail Lew is the former director of keyboard publications for Warner Bros. Music and currently serves as Editor and New Music Reviewer for the California Music Teacher magazine, Chairperson for the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy Committee on Independent Music Teachers, adjunct professor of applied piano for Las Positas College, and adjudicator for state, national, and international events. She received her Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance, Master of Arts Degree in Music History, and Lifetime California State Teaching Credential.. More ...
